Homecoming: Changes made for 2026 week
Homecoming traditions bring students together each year, but from last year to this year, changes have brought a new look to a familiar school tradition. Mead High handed over the student council club to a new advisor, Amanda Lee, and she looked to convert their 2026 homecoming dance in different ways. Senior Alivia Dunaway has been involved in student council since her sophomore year. She said some changes needed to be put into place. “I think the pas

Same Staff, New Roles
Teachers do more than just teach and this year two Mead staff members are proving just that. From leading student clubs to taking on new responsibilities, these staff members are stepping into bigger roles around the school. Business teacher Amanda Lee said it was time for her to do more for the school. Knowing that art teacher Courtney Buelt, who had been in charge of Mead’s student council program for 13 years, had a lot on her plate, Lee took over the club. “Mrs. Buelt

From athlete to mathlete
Whether on the court or in the classroom, Jill Scanlon has made her presence known at Mead Public Schools. “You know that I’m not quiet,” Scanlon said. “I’m not just 6-foot-4, but I’m loud.” While she’s well-known after 12 years in Mead’s halls, many might not realize she was also a presence on the courts in college. During her five years at Peru State College, Scanlon participated in volleyball and basketball for the first two years. She continued to take part in volle

Quinn joins parents as teacher at Mead
Recently employed at Mead Public schools, a new English teacher is taking over the job of Alexis Pedersen, and previously – his father. Josh Quinn, son of superintendent PJ Quinn, returns to Mead after graduating in 2018. Ingraham fills needed music position right before school
For the past few years, Mead has struggled with keeping a music teacher for more than a couple years. But this year might just be different with new music teacher Jeffrey Ingraham. According to principal Darin Kovar, Mead has not had the best success in finding a music teacher who is going to stay. Reasons why include many people don't want to go into teaching and many kids don't want to specialize in music, he said. The teacher who Mead officials hired to fill the vacant h

Plans for new elementary evolving, becoming final
Plans for a new elementary school are moving forward, but several steps must be completed before construction workers can break ground. Whether it is finalizing plans or just needing more time for safety precautions, school officials delayed the start of construction. “We knew there were two possibilities,” school board president Greg Williams said. “We could start construction and start this fall, which would put us probably in the building over Christmas break (

It takes collaborative effort to teach high school music
It was nearing the end of summer and the beginning of another school year when Mead’s hired band and choir teacher quit. With it being so close to the school year starting, principal Darin Kovar started to fret. “Just a little bit of panic about what we were going to do, and fearful that we would not have anyone apply for the position.” Kovar said. Mead found a “last minute replacement” in July. Mead hired Jeffery Ingraham, but “I certainly wasn’t looking for it,” Ingraham

One student transfers to Mead
From one small school to another, junior Finn Griffith was the only student who transferred to Mead for the 2026-2027 school year. After previously going to Yutan, the small school setting was nothing new for Griffith. “It was definitely different at first, not knowing the building and the teachers,” Griffith said. “But it wasn’t that much different of a change still being at a small school.” Griffith wasn’t going through these changes alone. He had many people to help him.
