Volleyball team cruises past Omaha Christian
In a fast-paced game, the Mead Raiders came out on top against the Omaha Christian Eagles. On Sept. 24, the Mead’s varsity volleyball team won at home with a final score of 3-0.
It was expected that Mead would win, with its record of 8-11 compared to OCA’s record of 3-10.
Mead volleyball coach Keshia Havelka said that she knew the importance of achieving this win.
“Our expectation when we step on the court is to win every game,” Havelka said.
Havelka said the girls played well overall, specifically Jersey O’Brien, Hadley Havelka and Kailynn Chmelka.
The Raiders won the first set 25-14. The large difference was due to an early lead by Aubree Broekemeier and a good conclusion to the set by Olivia Lee.
Broekemeier gave the Raiders a good lead with a seven-point run
The second set was tight, with a score of 25-22. The Raiders managed to pull off the win on the second set by being able to side out at the end efficiently.
“Came down to us relaxing a little bit in our game,” Havelka said.
Set three was won by the Raiders, ending with a score of 25-20.
According to Havelka, the serve/pass ratio could’ve gone slightly better.
“Our serve pass ratio is vital to our success,” said Havelka. “If you can win the serve pass game in high school volleyball, you can most times win the matches.”
