One student transfers to Mead
From one small school to another, junior Finn Griffith was the only student who transferred to Mead for the 2026-2027 school year. After previously going to Yutan, the small school setting was nothing new for Griffith.
“It was definitely different at first, not knowing the building and the teachers,” Griffith said. “But it wasn’t that much different of a change still being at a small school.” Griffith wasn’t going through these changes alone. He had many people to help him.
His biggest help was junior Caleb Popken.
“He has helped me by showing me around the building and how to do certain things that I don’t know how to do,” Giffith said.
Popken also has done other things to help.
“I always sat with him at the lunch table to make sure he is comfortable,” Popken said. “I also changed tables, so it has been a big change for me but a bigger change to Finn.”
Even though the changes may be difficult, Griffith quickly becomes comfortable.
“It took me only a couple days because I already knew a lot of people, and we already got along really well,” Griffith said. “The hardest part was just getting used to the teachers and how they teach.”
He said the teacher who has helped the most is counselor Dawn Moser.
“Just checking up on him making sure he is familiar with Mead’s procedures and tools,” Moser said. “And making sure he knows I’m available whenever he needs it.”
Another student who has helped is Clayton Steinbach.
Steinbach was excited when he found out that Griffith was transferring to Mead.
“I was very excited cause it’s fun having a new kid and it’s especially fun having someone that you know and you’re friends with,” Steinbach said.
Both Steinbach and Popken run cross country with Griffith. They both agree that he tries his hardest and pushes people to be their best.
“He hustles a lot and tries very hard,” Steinbach said. “He helps out team a lot, by just moving our attitudes, and talking to everyone.”
