Hello, my name is KellyJo Everson and I am the 5-12 grade band and 7-12 grade choir director for Mead Public Schools. My husband and I along with my three young children have lived in Waverly since 2016. I am very excited to bring back the love and grow this amazing department of young musicians!
I went to primary school in the very small town of Elba Nebraska and then transferred my Junior year and graduated from St. Paul Nebraska. After, I traveled to California to perform and attend college with the Performing group “The Young Americans”. A year later I returned to Nebraska to earn my Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. My primary instrument is Voice and Trumpet. I have 12 years of experience teaching prior to Mead Public Schools, the latest of which was DC West Community Schools where I taught K-12 vocal music and then last year a District 145 in Waverly at the Elementary school. My other prior experience has been K-12 band and vocal music in smaller school districts in Midwest Nebraska. 2020-21 was my first year in Mead.
I enjoy many activities when I am not teaching. My children keep me busy with swimming, soccer, and baseball and softball where I am often the coach. Personally I enjoy singing, dancing, reading, and gardening. You can often find me at country music concerts, husker football, and volleyball games, singing karaoke, or in my home garden. I also run a summer produce stand in Waverly.
I love coaching sports and performing music. I have coached volleyball, basketball, track, and softball/tee ball. I have also traveled to Nashville and recorded a CD of country music covers and I used to play piano and sang in a country band. Music is my life and my passion and I truly hope to inspire my students to be great in whatever they decide to do!
