2021 State Academic Decathlon
The Mead AcaDeca team wrapped up their season on February 19th and 20th. This year brought about changes, namely all the competitions being held remotely, but the one thing that did not change was the effort of the students.
On February 19th, the Regular Team came to the school to Zoom their prepared speeches and conduct their interviews. Kelly Richards earned a Gold Medal for her Interview, the first gold for the Mead program in an interview, speech or essay competition.
On February 20th, the Alternates joined the Regular Team to take their objective tests in Art, Economics, Literature, Math, Music, Science, and Social Science. As Mead is a 'Very Small' school, the competition is always tough at state when the 'Small' and 'Medium' schools join the 'Very Small'. However, Chris and Matt Hanson were able to come away with multiple medals each.
Below are the students who medaled:
Chris Hanson (Honors Alternate): Bronze in Fine Arts and Silver in Hard Science
Matt Hanson (Scholastic Alternate): Gold in Fine Arts, Bronze in Soft Science, and Silver in Hard Science
Kelly Richards (Honors): Gold in Interview
Jackson Munter: Mead's Top Overall Scorer
The following students "placed":
Kaitlyn Hanson (Honors): 7th in Economics
Lauren Holloway (Honors): 6th in Speech
Jacky Cruz (Scholastic): 6th in Art and 6th in Speech
