2019 Mead AcaDeca Regional and State Results
Regionals
On January 19th, the Mead Academic Decathlon team traveled to Midland University to compete in the Regional competition.
The team finished third at the Very Small School level in the Super Quiz and Overall. That third place was good enough to qualify for State February 15-16 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The following are the medalists for Mead from the Regional:
Honors Level
Emily Hanson: Bronze in Art, Math, and Super Quiz; Gold in Music and Top Mead Scorer.
Kaitlyn Hanson: Bronze in Economics, Science and Super Quiz.
Lauren Holloway (Alternate): Bronze in Literature, Art, Music, Math, Economics and Science.
Scholastic Level
Jacky Cruz: Bronze in Super Quiz.
Kelly Richards: Bronze in Music, Math and Super Quiz.
Cali Carritt (Alternate): Silver in Literature, Art, Economics, Math and Science; Bronze in Music.
Varsity Level
Mystic Hartgrave: Gold in Music; Bronze in Super Quiz.
Jackson Munter: Silver in Music and Math; Bronze in Literature, Economics, Science, and Super Quiz.
Edgar Hernandez (Alternate): Gold in Literature, Art, Music, Math, Economics, and Science.
State
On February 15th and 16th, the nine students from Mead traveled to the University of Nebraska at Omaha to compete in the State Final, along with students from Bellevue East, Brownell-Talbot, Crieghton Prep, Daniel Gross, Mount Michael, Nebraska City Lourdes Central, Pius X, Southwest and Wahoo.
On Friday night, the team received their Runner-up trophy from their regional efforts in January.
Mead had a respectable showing in the Super Quiz. No medals were earned, but each level pulled their weight an the team came in sixth.
Against a very tough field, individual medals were also very tough to come by. The only two medalists for Mead were Kelly Richard, receiving a Bronze in Speech, and Jacky Cruz, receiving a Bronze in Interview. Both competed at the Scholastic level.
Kaitlyn Hanson was recognized as the highest scoring Mead team member.
