Mead FCCLA attends District Conference
On Wednesday, October 5th, 105 students and advisors throughout Omaha and surrounding areas participated in a day filled with safety activities at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Omaha. Seventeen members from the Mead FCCLA chapter were among these students. The theme for the conference was “Super Safety”. The high school students hosting the safety event are members of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America chapters from District 3.
The conference included a session about the perils of reckless driving. Gina Springhower gave a presentation, “A Matter of Seconds”, which focused on the dangers of drinking and driving. Jena Munson, a Recreational Therapist, discussed brain and spine injury related accidents. Following lunch, Stephanie Olson shared facts about human trafficking with her message entitled “Set Me Free”. Students also had a chance to see the effects of drunk driving by using goggles and trying to go through an obstacle course. The students also did a community service project which involved coloring cards for children at a local hospital. The Super Safety conference provided a wealth of valuable information and will be a memorable occasion for all attendees.
