Academic Decathlon Makes State & Named Rookie of the Year
The Mead High School Academic Decathlon team traveled to Midland University on January 17th to compete in the regional level of competition.
Across the state, schools in the Very Small School category were represented by 2 students in the Honors, Scholastic and Varsity levels. Each student's scores in the six testing areas, plus the team results in the Super Quiz, would be used to determine which Very Small Schools made it to the state level of competition at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on February 20-21.
The Mead AcaDeca team finished 5th in the Very Small School category. Mead was the highest scoring team out of the first time competitors, earning them the title of "Rookie of the Year" and a place in the State Competition.
The following students earned medals at the competition:
In Language and Literature, Lynn Hanson placed 2nd at the Scholastic Level. Don Hanson placed 3rd at the Varsity Level. Bre Wirth placed 2nd at the Alternate Scholastic Level.
In Art, Lynn Hanson placed 3rd at the Scholastic Level. Bre Wirth placed 2nd at the Alternate Scholastic Level.
In Mathematics, Don Hanson placed 1st at the Varsity Level. Michael Klahn placed 3rd at the Alternate Honors Level.
In Economics, Bre Wirth placed 2nd at the Alternate Scholastic Level.
In Science, Ethan Dyas placed 3rd at the Honors Level. Don Hanson placed 1st at the Varsity Level.
Ethan Dyas was the overall point leader for the Mead team.
The Super Quiz team scored 13, good for 5th at the testing site and the best of the 3 Very Small Schools at the site.

Josiah Sohriakoff (Varsity): 4th in Language and Literature, 4th in Music, and 6th in Science.
Michael Klahn (Alternate Honors): 5th in Economics and 6th in Science.
Bre Wirth (Alternate Scholastic): 6th in Music and 6th in Science.
