Softball State Champs!!
by Kelly Cooper and Andrew Rasmussen
The Yutan/Mead Patriots softball team are your 2008 State Champions and had a magnificent trophy to bring home on Friday night, as well as memories they’ll never forget. The Patriots went into state seated number one. They opened against 21-8 Milford, who won 12 of its past 13 games, but the Patriots still came out with a win. Next up for the Patriots was the Bennington Badgers, for the forth time this year. Bennington is the only team that has defeated the Patriots and that did not worry the determined Patriots. They went out with the determination of a champion and achieved the victory in the second round. On to Friday where the Patriots looked to face a well known opponent, Wahoo Public. The Patriots beat the Warriors earlier on this season; and the Patriots knew it was going to be a tough game. They went on to beat the Warriors by a score of 2-1. By beating the Wahoo Warriors the Patriots advanced to the Championship Round where they would face the Bennington Badgers for the fifth time this year. The Patriots knew what they were going to have to play the best game of their life in order to win. Sure enough they did; they won 4-0, Defeating the young Bennington team. The Patriots are looking forward for next year’s season but will miss their two seniors, Becky Murray and Amanda Hart. Lets hope the 2009 season will be as electrifying as the 2008 season was. Congratulations Yutan/Mead Patriots!
