Speech Team Set to Begin Competition
by Ken Furstenau
The Mead High School speech has been busy preparing for the competitive season which begins with the conference speech meet on February 24th and concludes with the district meet on March 9th. The speech team consists on many veterans who will be a huge asset when it comes to helping out the new members of the team. In 2009, Mead’s Oral Interpretation of Drama team qualified for state and many of those members return to compete this year. Additionally, Brandon Morin returns to competition this year after nearly qualifying for state last year.
Members of the speech team coached by Tricia Kruse include seniors Rachel Anderson, Shelby Brabec and Amy Wimer. Junior members of the team are Katie Johnson and Olivia Johnson. Sophomores Joey Hass, Jamie Larsen, Brandon Morin, Lindsey Pearson and Jenna Schutt are members of the team. The freshmen consist of Clair Brabec, Amber Koelmel and Stevie Kruger.
This group of students will compete in the conference meet on February 24th in Malcolm. The season will conclude on March 9th with the district meet at Howells. However, it should be noted that students who qualify for the state meet will have one more competition which is scheduled for Friday March 19th in Kearney, Nebraska.
