"Reid's Story" Assembly

April 25th

On Thursday, April 25, Dr. Mark and Joni Adler will share the story of their son Reid, who committed suicide at age 15. After Reid’s passing, the Adlers discovered that he was the victim of intimidation and cyber bullying. In Reid’s Story, the Adlers share their family’s experience and challenge students to stand up for each other and stop bullying or inappropriate treatment between students.

Grades 7-12 will attend the presentation. However, because of the sensitive nature of the content, parents may choose that their student(s) not attend. Parents or guardians can call (402 624-3435) or email (kschutt@esu2.org) the high school office to let us know that a 7-12 student should not attend.

Grades 5-6 will be invited to the assembly, but because of the sensitive nature of the content, they must have parental permission to attend. A permission form for those grades will be mailed directly to parents. Permission forms can be returned to the school by students, mailed to the address above, or sent back in the student’s weekly folder. Permission forms for 5-6 students must be received by the end of the school day on Tuesday, April 23. Students who do not attend the assembly will work on IXL or iReady.

Dr. Adler knows the educational environment very well. He is currently the superintendent of Ralston Public Schools and has been an educator for over 25 years. Joni is a stay at home mom and does extensive work in advocacy and community service. They have shared their story with schools and organizations across the state.

Again, because of the sensitive nature of the assembly, parents may indicate that 7-12 students will not attend. Grades 5-6 need permission to attend. Permission forms for grades 5-6 need to be returned to school by the end of the school day on Tuesday, April 23. Parents or guardians with any questions are encouraged to call Mr. Quinn at (402) 624-3435.
