Academic Decathlon Pius X Scrimmage

On Saturday, November 5th, the Academic Decathlon team traveled to Lincoln Pius X High School to participate in a scrimmage.

Students Ethan Dyas, McKenna Holloway, Mary Linscomb, Emily Hanson, Cole Zima, Cali Carritt, Josiah Sohriakoff and Alexis Cruz participated in three subject area tests (Art, Language and Literature, and Mathematics) and the Super Quiz--an oral test over the Social Sciences.

The Mead team of Cole Zima and Ethan Dyas finished 5th of 11 "Small" schools, varying in size from Class B to Class D, in the Super Quiz.

Individually, Ethan Dyas was recognized as Mead's high team scorer, but no individual medaled.

At the Honors level, among 47 competitors:

Ethan Dyas placed 7th in Language and Literature, 10th in Mathematics and 16th in Art History.

McKenna Holloway placed 11th in Language and Literature, 20th in Mathematics and 20th in Art History.

Mary Linscomb placed 11th in Language and Literature, 17th in Mathematics and 22nd in Art History.

At the Scholastic level, among 33 competitors:

Cole Zima placed 10th in Language and Literature, 13th in Mathematics and 11th in Art History.

Josiah Sohriakoff placed 16th in Language and Literature, 9th in Mathematics and 20th in Art History.

At the Varsity level, among 29 competitors:

Cali Carritt placed 11th in Language and Literature, 13th in Mathematics and 14th in Art History.

Alexis Cruz placed 16th in Language and Literature, 12th in Mathematics and 11th in Art History.

At the Novice level, among 34 competitors:

Emily Hanson placed 13th in Language and Literature, 18th in Mathematics and 10th in Art History.

The Academic Decathlon team will next compete on January 21st at Regional Competition.
