During 4th grade library skills, students used the ThingLink app to explore and develop their knowledge of the library’s reference section. We spent most of first semester exploring our WorldBook Online database, the library’s online card catalog, and the AR Book Finder website. This semester we will focus on other useful resources found within our own library.

To begin their exploration of our various reference books, students first took a picture of the reference section using an iPad. They then were able to open the ThingLink app and label the different parts of that photo. They were able to add text to describe the reference books and their uses, add pictures within the picture to show the book’s features, and some even got creative with adding video.

The goal of this project was to familiarize students with our reference section, but to also give them a tool they can use for other assignments, and to integrate technology to further interest and learning. Students seemed engaged throughout the project and expressed their enjoyment in using the iPads, even if it was for an assignment!
