Principal’s Point of View

School Calendar Offers Several Options

As a principal, I frequently use the online school calendar to check dates and times of future events.
This year, thanks to some help from Mr. Furstenau, I even figured out how to add events from the school calendar to my Google calendar! Here are few tips on how to use the calendar.

First of all, the easiest ways to access the calendar is through the school website: www.meadpublicschools.org. On the right side of the page is a button for the 2013-2014 Calendar. Select the button and the events for the current day will appear. The entire week can be viewed by clicking the View whole week button located below the day’s events.

The calendar offers several other advanced options.

Advanced Option 1

To find when a particular event is scheduled to occur, simply scroll through the View Schedules box at the middle right side of the page. Events are listed alphabetically, but many begin with Mead, so you may have to scroll through the Mead section. Click on the event and then click the View button below it. You will get the date and other relevant information about that event. This works for all events listed in the View Schedule box. For example, if you want to know when the Homecoming Dance and Homecoming Coronation are, you would scroll to Mead Homecoming Coronation and Mead Homecoming Dance. Click on Homecoming Coronation, hold the control key down (PC), and click on Homecoming Dance. Pressing the control key allows you to select multiple events. Select the View button, and the information for both should then display.

Advanced Option 2

To find out what is happening on any particular date, click on that date in the calendar in the top right hand corner. If the date is not underlined, no activity is schedule. To find the month you are looking for, click > to scroll forward one month at a time, click < to click back one month at a time, click >> to scroll forward one year, and click << to scroll back one year. Or, you can select the specific month from the View box at the top right above the calendar. If you scroll to October and select the 4th, you will see that there is a home football game and it is also Parents Night for football.

Advanced Option 3

This option is the one to use if you like to print out your calendar. Begin by clicking the Go To Advanced View button. Go to the bottom of the gray screen and chose a time period you want to
view. You can choose to view a week, month, specific date range, or the entire school year. Once you do this, click the Generate Report button at the very bottom of the page. The page that appears allows you to select how you want to see the information. By changing the view in the top right, you can select Month View (calendar style), Day/Date (detailed information by date of each event) or Date Condensed. If you select the Month View, you will need to click Show Report. If you select Date Condensed, you will then be prompted to List Each Schedule Separately or Blend Schedule Together By Date.

I use Option 3 the most because I like to see events in a calendar format. No matter which way you like to view the calendar, I hope this helps you use it more effectively. If you have any questions, give me a call.
