Mead Students Perform at Holland Performing Arts Center
Michele Garcia, Haley Konecky, and Joel Spath were selected to be members in honor groups that performed at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, as part of the UNO B.O.C.H. Festival. The event was held Jan. 27-29, with practices being held on the UNO campus.
Michele and Joel sang in the Mixed Choir. They worked with guest director,
Matthew Mehaffey. The director is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Minnesota, where he conducts the Concert Choir and the Men's Chorus and serves as Music Director of the University Opera Theatre. He is also the Artistic Director of the Oratorio Society of Minnesota, a role he assumed in 2008.
Haley Konecky played clarinet in the Durango Band. She worked with guest director, Dr. John Ginocchio. John Ginocchio is Director of Bands, Associate Professor of Music, Music Program Coordinator, and Chair of the Department of Art, Music, Speech Communication & Theatre at Southwest Minnesota State University. His responsibilities include conducting the SMSU Symphonic Band and SMSU/Community Concert Band. He also directs the Mustang Pep Band and the SMSU Jazz Ensemble. Dr. Ginocchio is co-founder and a clinician for the Minnesota Area Conducting Workshop.
Chelsea Musgrave and Christina Nelson also auditioned and were selected for the event, but were unable to attend due to illness.
