Mead Students Excel Academically and Athletically
A number of Mead students who participated in winter activities were recently honored for their hard work athletically, academically, and theatrically. It is only through their hard work on the basketball court, in the classroom and in the speech arena that these students were able to excel, and they should be congratulated.
Each year the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) hands out academic all-state awards to those students who achieved a 3.7 GPA in all subjects and who are varsity players or organizational leaders. For the winter season the following Mead students were named to the academic all-state teams: In speech, Katie Johnson and Jenna Schutt, in girls basketball Katie Johnson and Kristina Johnson and in boys basketball Nate Raver. The East Central Nebraska Conference also has an academic award and a number of Mead seniors were honored by the conference. To qualify for the conference award a student must be a senior, must be ranked in the top 25% of their class and maintain an average of 90% or better in all of their classes. The Mead students that were honored include: Emily Garcia, Ashley Moravec, Kristina Johnson, Nate Raver and Brett Virgl. Each of these students deserves a big congratulation for not only excelling in their chosen extracurricular activity but also in the classroom.
A number of Mead athletes also earned post-season honors. In girls basketball Katie Johnson earned a number of honors. Katie was named to the Lincoln Journal-Star and Omaha World Herald all-state teams as a member of the second team. She was also named first team all-conference and seond team all-area by the Fremont Tribune. For the boys Nate Raver also earned a number of post-season honors. He earned honorable mention all-state honors from the Lincoln Journal-Star and the Omaha World Herald. Nate was also named first team all conference and earned honorable mention all-area from the Fremont Tribune. In addition Mead senior Austin Pickworth earned honorable mention all-conference honors and honorable mention all-area honors from the Fremont Tribune.
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and good luck in the future.
