Raider Readers Honored for Hard Work
On Friday February 19th a group of Mead Elementary students were honored during halftime of the final home basketball game as the first group of Raider Readers. The students are: Abby Miller, Emily Hanson, Delaney Patocka, McKenna Holloway, Josh Quinn, Jacob Felty, Michael Klahn, Josiah Sohriakoff, Tiffany Berst, Don Hanson, Kaitlynn Weise-Hunt, Alex Quinn, John Strain, Jack Furstenau, Rachel Slobodnik, Kyla Hrdlicka, Riley Langemeier, Garrett Coleman
The first group of Raider Readers were chosen based on performance and effort. We are encouraging students to read whenever there is an opportunity. The students select books at their reading level and take a comprehension test when they are finished with the book. They can earn points based on their score, and then use those points to purchase small items at the AR store. Kim Thrasher, the Title I Reading Teacher who is in charge of the AR program said "What I have noticed is that kids aren’t so concerned about the store, but they are concerned about how well they do on tests." We couldn’t ask for more than to have internally motivated students! Students grades 1-6th have passed 876 tests this school year and read 11,359,015 words so far. This is amazing!
