Patriot's Pen (grades 6-8)
Deadline: October 29
Conducted nationwide, this VFW sponsored youth essay competition gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy with the prospect of winning US savings bonds. The top 46 national winners all receive at least a $1000 savings bond.
The contest consists of four levels. The first level is sponsored by the local VFW and then may advance from there to the regional, state and national level.
Patriot's Pen is open to 6, 7, and 8 graders. Students must write a 300-400 typewritten essay on the topic Does Patriotism Still Matter?
See Ms. Moser for more details and a registration form. Entries must be turned in to Ms. Moser by October 29 so they can be delivered to the VFW by November 1.
