MEAD — Midland Lutheran College has accomplished what most state high school football teams only dreamed about doing the past few years — catch Jared Larson and contain Richard Winkelman. Both athletes signed to play football and run track for the Warriors on Wednesday April 30th.
Larson the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, who was regarded as one of the states best running backs, totaling more nearly 3,500 yards of total offence and 46 touchdowns during his career at Mead High School. His performances helped Mead rank in the top 25 in the state in all four major statistical categories, including 17th in total offense.
Winkelman the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder, was the cornerstone of the Mead defense. He finished his carrier with 169 tackles, including 55 solo stops, and 18.5 tackles for loss. Winkelman's fifteen and a half tackles for losses his senior year ranks as the best single season effort in Mead history.
Larson and Winkelman also plan to participate for the Warrior Track and Field team. Larson is a 42 foot triple jumper and sprinter, while Winkelman is a 142 foot discus thrower.
“Midland is going to be lucky to have these two guys, they are both hard workers who have an amazing love for the game” said Mead Head football and Track coach John Kucera.
