Lady Raiders Exceed Expectations
by Levi Koelmel
In the first round of girls’ sub-districts, the 13-6 Mead Lady Raiders went up against the 13-6 Clarkson Red Devils. In a thrilling feat of basketball mastery and fortitude, Heather Thorson led the Raiders with 30 points. The Red Devils also showed much talent on the floor but were unable to pull off the victory.
The Raiders then progressed to the second round to face the Archbishop Bergan Knights at DC West. The Raiders played excellently and pulled off the 43-39 win. Again, the Raiders were led by teammate Heather Thorson with 15 total points followed closely by Katie Johnson who had 13 points. Sadly, this winning streak was not to last.
The Raiders then proceeded to face what was to be their final challenge. The Raiders did not seem to play as well as in previous games; this fact, and the total amassing of 16 penalties, brought the Raiders to a 28-46 loss against the Meridian Mustangs. When asked about the season’s outcome, Thorson stated, “It was a successful season. I wish we could have made it to state but all in all is was successful.” Although the Raiders could not attain the immortality of becoming state champions, this last season is still one for the record books.
CONGRATULATIONS!
