Band Travels to Colorado, Summer 2007
by Deb Virgl
The Jr.-Sr. High Band went to Denver and Colorado Springs June 21 – 23. The band performed at Six Flags Elitch Garden and spent the remainder of the day at the park. A few brave souls enjoyed the thrills of the slingshot. (Ask a band member about that!) Other stops on the trip included: Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Fat City Entertainment, U.S. Olympic Training Center, Garden of the Gods, U.S. Air Force Academy and Chapel, and Casa Bonita’s Mexican Restaurant. We were able to add a short drive into the mountains. This was the first time to the mountains for about a third of the people on the trip. We also attended the Broadway Musical “Wicked” at the Temple Buell Theater. This musical story is based on the teen years of the “good witch” and “bad witch” from the Wizard of Oz. We even ran into a truck driver who performed a few magic tricks for us at our last truck stop on the way home. The students represented our school well! Thank you to our adult sponsors: Peggy Wimer, Jane Taylor, Carrie Moody, Kristen Nygren, Jenny Carritt, Jim Virgl, Bill Flagle, and Kevin Hough.
